New York Times rejects UN rapporteur's 'mediacide' report
Francesca Albanese accused major outlets of helping legitimise Israel's actions in Gaza; the Times said her report offers no proof of outside pressure.

The New York Times on Monday rejected a report by UN Special Rapporteur Francesca Albanese that accused it and other major media of helping to legitimise Israel's actions in Gaza, calling her claims baseless and misleading, the Times of Israel reported.
Albanese's report, presented to the UN General Assembly, alleges what she called a mediacide: the killing of Palestinian journalists, Israeli restrictions on the press and biased coverage abroad. It criticises the Times for cautioning staff on use of the word genocide and for its coverage of so-called safe zones.
“no pressure campaigns or biased criticism will deter us from that work”
New York Times spokesperson
The paper said Albanese offered no evidence that Israeli officials or lobby groups shaped its editorial guidance, and pointed to its own investigations into sexual violence against Palestinians. The BBC, also criticised in the report, did not comment.
