Brazil's President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva won a fourth term in Sunday's runoff, beating right-wing senator Flavio Bolsonaro, son of former president Jair Bolsonaro, by about 4.4 million votes, AFP reported.

Bolsonaro's Liberal Party said on Monday it recognised the result certified by the Superior Electoral Court, although Flavio Bolsonaro had said he would seek to annul it after voting was extended by two hours at Lula's request because of transport problems.

US President Donald Trump called the vote rigged. Lula had trailed in the first round before overturning the deficit in the runoff, and abstention fell from 21 to 19 per cent.
