WFP cuts Gaza food aid by a third, leaving 500,000 without support

The World Food Programme says funding for its Palestine operations is under half of past years and it needs $450 million to keep going through March.

The World Food Programme said on Monday it had cut food assistance in Gaza by about a third, affecting some 500,000 people as winter approaches. It is now supporting 1.1 million people a month, down from 1.6 million in September.

Families will receive one food parcel instead of two and a smaller bag of flour. Daily hot meals will fall from 250,000 to 150,000, and in hard-to-reach areas near the Yellow Line meals will be delivered every other day, the agency said.

“these gains remain fragile and could quickly be reversed if humanitarian funding continues to decline.”

WFP said hunger had eased since the October 2025 ceasefire, with about 67 per cent of Gazans now facing crisis-level food insecurity or worse, down from 77 per cent at the end of 2025. It warned the improvement could quickly reverse. In the West Bank, the number of people it helps was halved to 200,000 in September.
