My Foot is in Heaven, a short film by Gaza-born actor and filmmaker Iyad Hajjaj, has now won 19 awards on the festival circuit, The New Arab reports.
Hajjaj plays a father whose daughter is badly injured in an Israeli airstrike and whose foot doctors can only amputate without anaesthetic. The film is inspired by real events and was shot in southern California, where he spent months building the set and costumes.
“The story of a girl in Gaza could happen to anyone.”
Iyad Hajjaj, filmmaker
Hajjaj grew up in Rafah and has worked in Hollywood for decades, with credits including Ms. Marvel and Black Monday. He has screened the film in London and New York and in rural parts of the US, and it is due at the Egyptian American Film Festival on Staten Island.
